Slasher.
Scream:
This is a linear style opening sequence in which case (the sight of activity) is stalked by the killer. They use many different techniques to build tension in the scene. At the start there is a lot of foreshadowing, for example; in the opening moments of the scene, casey plays with a kitchen knife which ends up being the murder weapon, this a great use of dramatic irony. During the opening there is very little music due to the lack of tension and threat, but as the scene continues the diegetic sounds within the scene me increases to help build the tension on the scene. The fact that is is a blonde female being stalked by the killer, is a very iconic horror film technique and has been used previously to good effect.

At first we see a very minimalistic title which says 'saw' it was a plain black background with blue writing on it. The black background can be associated with death and also the unknown, the blue can be associated with night time and it is also usually a calm colour with contradicts the upcoming scene; both of these colour then transfer over into the OTS as we can see that the lighting in the room is blue and black. We can also see that the OTS follows a linear format as it tells a clear story without any time jumps. The fact that we are shown death within the OTS we can tell that this is clearly a slasher movie and as a result of the level of gore throughout the movie it has therefore become a timeless classic slasher music.
This is a non-linear title sequence as we see various clips with no direct chronological connection, throughout the OTS there are captures of sharp objects and we also see a collection of photos and books, this could link to research for a possible target with the use of these sharp objects. As a result of this the audience is instantaneously engaged in the movie and they can begin to make presumptions on what they think will occur in the following scenes. The non-linear style of the OTS causes the audience to be engaged and also curious about what could've and might happen.
Our title sequence
Our OTS has conformed with the sub-genre of slasher, the main way that we have accomplished this is through the use of fake blood in one of our scenes. Even though we only have blood usage in one scene and it lasts for a couple of seconds, our OTS is not intended to be a blood bath full of gory scenes. It's purpose is to engage the audience into the story of the movie and the characters. From this we will gain full attention of the viewers and as a result our gory scenes will have a greater impact and produce more of a reaction through the realism of our movie.
