The woman in black opening title sequence is very effective and causes the audience to be manipulated and change their simplistic and very innocent views on young girls and how they act when with one another. The audience will feel a slight tension due to the music change throughout the opening title sequence. The music starts off quiet and slowly increases due to the change in action of the girls; this is effective on the audience due to the theory by Wes Craven where he said about how taking something that seems safe and is deemed to be non treating can equate to you being worried because you would run into the same situation in normal life. The opening title sequence from the woman in black uses this theory by using three young girl who seem sweet and innocent are actually very different. They're also in a normal room in a normal house again adding to the fact that safe places cam be moulded to be something unexpected. the colours used are mainly dark and bland this portrays how something so normal is being possessed and over powered by darkness. The colour might also be highlighting the mood of the children, their minds are now 'bland' and 'dark' and its like the mind of the children have been wiped and therefore they can have any control over there actions. The shots used are also simple and are predominantly neutral; this showcases all of the action taking place.
They The opening title sequence for scream uses a venerable teenage girl who's in a big, empty and quiet house; these factors cause every sound to be over powering and extremely obvious to the audience, so when the phone rings it gives a slight shock to the audience and will make them think about who's on the other end of the phone. Due to the person being odd and clearly metal on the other end of the phone, the audience thinks they're in control and know about the person and are prepared for him to call again but when the door bell rings it adds the real factor to the OTS causing them to then feel worried. The girls emotions are reflected onto the audience and what ever she feels the audience does so when she freaks out and starts to cry and is extremely nervous the audience feel the same.
