The location of a horror movie is greatly important to the movie as it creates the atmosphere and adds immensely to the tension of the scenes. One way that the location can add to the horror of the movie is through the location choice being somewhere relatable, this would add to the horror aspect of the film as after seeing the film the audience will see similar objects/areas and associate them instantly with what happened in the movie.
Depending on the sub-genre of the horror movie the location will greatly change, for example if it is going to be a poltergeist movie then a house or inside a building will be a suitable location as there are plenty of objects and props to move around in order to create a horror effect. However if it was in a forest or somewhere very desolate then there would be a minimal amount of scenes you can get out of a poltergeist.
Based on this we have decided that we will film in the boiler room underneath our school, there are many reasons why we have decided to film our OTS in here. One being that it is a rarely seen location for a slasher movie meaning that it will make our movie seen unique. Also we have decided that we will film in there as it is a very dark area, which will of course add to the horror aspect of the location. In our OTS we also specify that the boiler room in abandoned, this is important to the location of a horror movie and this is a common feature of the location. This is because if the location is close to somewhere populated or safe then the scenes are instantly less tense than if it is obvious to the viewer that there is no help around and the victim is almost certain to die.

Our Location
You can see in the image of our location that there are many turns and corners in the boiler room, as a result of this there are many shadows and areas that can't be seen without the use of a light. This is effective in a horror movie at it creates a lot of mystery and adds to the possible danger. This is more effective than if we were to film in a well lit room with no turns then it would be difficult to create a scary atmosphere for the audience, it also gives us the opportunities to have jump scares and to build high levels of tension. The fact that our location has never been used in a horror film of our sub-genre and style means that the audience doesn't have any ideas of what may happen due to them not seeing anything similar to this before, this allows for maximum tension for the audience whilst they are watching our OTS.
This is towards the beginning of our OTS and at the bottom of the stairs you can see the boiler room in which we filmed the rest of our sequence, we chose to have this shot and this location because it is down the stairs. This links to how our film is drinkin with the devil and typically the devil is in hell which is underneath earth and we have the boiler room under the school so it can be inferred that the devil is located in the boiler, however in our OTS the devil is in the drink.
